While we have Picander's text complete, only the last four pages of the score of this cantata for Christmas Day survives in Bachs handwriting. However, with the help of both documented and presumed parody movements from other Bach works as well as a small dose of fresh composition the complete score has been reconstructed. As far as I can see, this is the first attempt at a complete resurrection of this important cantata.
